The Waterloo Foundation (TWF): Inviting applications for ‘environment fund’ to support projects which can help mitigate the damaging effects that humans are having on the environment and contribute to a positive change both now and in the future.

Funding brief: Through our environment fund they want to support projects which can help mitigate the damaging effects that humans are having on the environment and contribute to a positive change both now and in the future. The fund has two main themes:
Marine – support for projects working to halt declining fish stocks
Tropical Rainforests – support for projects protecting tropical rain forest, principally through avoided deforestation

Specific application requirements for marine funding: If your initial proposal to the Marine programme is deemed eligible, you will be expected to provide the following information. Therefore, applicants that refer to the availability of this information in their initial proposal will be given priority:

For marine local projects: Applicants should be able to evidence previous successful marine projects, with outcomes including:
A demonstrable increase in fish stocks;
Implementation of a management plan over a specified and measurable area;
Improved livelihoods and / or income levels of fishery-dependent communities.

For marine strategic projects:
Evidence of previous successful strategic programmes e.g. an attributable change in policy or improved supply chain;
For your proposed project, the specific measurable outcomes that you expect the programme to achieve, and the methods you will use to monitor these outcomes;
The strategy put in place to ensure the sustainability of the programme’s objectives for the long term.

Specific application requirements for tropical rainforests funding: If your initial proposal to the Tropical Rainforests programme is deemed eligible, you will be expected to provide the following information. Project start date: Not Found

Eligible organization: As below

Eligibility: The majority of our grants support projects or programmes.  Grants that are predominantly for core costs or unrestricted funding will only be open to organisations which they have previously supported with a grant, and which are invited to apply for this type of funding support.

Projects don’t support: There are certain types of project for which they are not able to offer funding under each of our programmes:

Marine:
Projects with animal conservation as the sole focus
Projects focusing on environmental education
Projects based in freshwater fisheries (e.g. Lake Victoria)

Tropical Rainforests:
Tree planting projects
Projects focused solely on the use of fuel-efficient stoves (they have selected one partner to undertake forest-related efficient stove interventions)
Projects with animal conservation as the sole focus
Projects focusing on environmental education

They are currently not accepting proposals for REDD projects, pending a review of projects already funded.

In addition, they will only consider proposals from US-based organisations under exceptional circumstances, due to the higher availability of environmental funding in the US compared to the UK.

Eligible Country: They prioritise providing funding support to UK-based charities, many of whom work in close partnership with smaller local NGOs based in the countries in which they operate.

If you are an organisation based outside of the UK you must send us contact details for a named person who is willing to provide us with a reference for your work.  This must be someone who:
Works for an international NGO with offices in the UK
Works for an organisation that the Foundation has previously given a grant to
Works for an organisation with offices in the UK, which has been a current or former donor to your organisation
Works for an academic institution, think tank or as an independent consultant who is based in the UK, and which has evaluated your organisation.

Ideally, the person you provide as a reference will have visited your organisation and be able to provide feedback on the quality of your work. Please state the name, contact details and your relationship to the referee (i.e. past funder) at the beginning of your application. Only applications with references will be considered.
