Champalimaud Foundation: Inviting applications for ‘The 2018 António Champalimaud Vision Award’ to be presented to active research groups involved in basic or clinical research which has led to a major breakthrough in the understanding and/or the preservation of vision.

Award brief: The 2018 António Champalimaud Vision Award will be presented to active research groups involved in basic or clinical research which has led to a major breakthrough in the understanding and/or the preservation of vision.

Candidates will be considered by a distinguished international jury for the outstanding quality and distinction of their original research contributions, the contemporary relevance of their work and measurable impact of their achievements.

The award may be used in any way that furthers the outstanding contributions of the recipients. This could be furthering basic, translational or clinical research, clinical practice or public health programmes. Nominations are requested from members of the scientific community in order to identify the most exceptional candidates.

The award is presented in alternate years for contributions, primarily in developing countries, to the alleviation of visual problems and contributions to overall vision research.

Nominations for the 2017 António Champalimaud Vision Award close on the 31st of December. The award will be presented to groups with outstanding contributions towards the prevention and alleviation of blindness and visual impairment, primarily in developing countries. Candidates may apply directly or be nominated by recognized members of the scientific community.

The 2018 award will be presented to active research groups involved in basic or clinical research which has led to a major breakthrough in the understanding and/or the preservation of vision.
