Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs in the Kingdom of Bahrain: Inviting applications for ‘King Hamad Youth Empowerment Award 2017’ to empower young people and give them the attention, encouragement and motivation needed.

Funding brief: The Youth Empowerment award comes as an initiative from the Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs in the Kingdom of Bahrain, as the first award of its kind that will be open to all Member States. This initiative aims to empower young people and give them the attention, encouragement and motivation needed. It will encourage all eligible participants to improve the enabling environment and infrastructure for youth to allow them to be effective and productive citizens contributing to their communities.

This initiative enhances the role of the Kingdom of Bahrain in youth development and its commitment to sustainability, through the involvement of all segments of society in it, particularly young people, as they own the abilities and energies that will achieve this. The initiative also aims to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals that aim to provide the best for young people’s future and through this award; all nominees will have achieved SDG targets.

This prestigious award including all that it will stand for and its goals, will get all sectors of the community involved and bring us a step forward in not only raising awareness for the importance of the youth but take us a step forward to achieving many goals that will help us create a better future.

Award Categories & Criteria:
Goverment Sector: The awardee will receive a certificate of recognition and a trophy for demonstrating strong performance against the following criteria:\
● Inclusion of youth in leadership and decision-making
● Proven contributions to youth empowerment and the Sustainable Development Goals
● Quality of programs and services provided to youth
● Diversity of programs and services provided to youth
● Use of innovation and creativity to reach youth
● Strength of evidence for program impact
● Number of youth reached annually
● Reputation and recognition in the field of youth empowerment
● Number of national and international awards received
● Organizational health and sustainability
● Must be a formal ministry or authority that reports to the government

Non-profit and International Organizations: The awardee will receive a $25,000 grant, a certificate of recognition and a trophy for demonstrating strong performance against the following criteria:
● Inclusion of youth in leadership and decision-making
● Proven contributions to youth empowerment and the Sustainable Development Goals
● Quality of programs and services provided to youth
● Diversity of programs and services provided to youth
● Use of innovation and creativity to reach youth
● Strength of evidence for program impact
● Number of youth reached annually
● Reputation and recognition in the field of youth empowerment
● Number of national and international awards received
● Organizational health and sustainability
● Must be a certified non-profit organization

Private Sector: The awardee will receive a certificate of recognition and a trophy for demonstrating strong performance against the following criteria:
● Financial commitment to social impact and youth empowerment
● Inclusion of youth in leadership and decision-making
● Support and empowerment of youth employees
● Proven contributions to the Sustainable Development Goals
● Quality of programs and services provided to youth
● Diversity of programs and services provided to youth
● Use of innovation and creativity to reach youth
● Strength of evidence for program impact
● Number of youth reached annually
● Reputation and recognition in the field of youth empowerment
● Number of national and international awards received
● Must be a certified for-profit company

Individual: The awardee will receive a $25,000 grant, a certificate of recognition and a trophy for demonstrating strong performance against the following criteria:
● Proven contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals through academic, professional, and/or voluntary accomplishments
● Examples of innovation, creativity and thought leadership
● Strong reputation among peers, colleagues and mentors
● Number of national and international awards received
● Number of youth societies and associations the individual is a part of
● Voluntary work completed to benefit his or her community
● Must be age 15 to 30

Eligibility: All nominations will be initially vetted according to required pre-vetting criteria. Failure to meet all required pre-vetting criteria will result in disqualification. All nominees must:
● Fill out nominations for the correct award type
● Be from a nation with official UN representation
● Exclude the name of the individual or organization in the written sections of the nomination
● Demonstrate significant support toward achieving at least three Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) targets within at least one SDG goal
● Have a track record of national and/or international awards
● Ensure all required statements of support must be received by the designated deadline
● Demonstrate some growth in total program reach of youth beneficiaries over the last three years

In addition, all applying organizations and entities must:
● Have been in operation for at least three years
● Provide valid documentation of registration
● Have programs that target youth. Youth are defined in Bahrain as those ages 15-30
● Have representation of youth making up a portion of their leadership and staff
● Have a portion of their funding designated to youth programs

Applying individuals must:
● Be at least 15 years old and no more than 30 years old
● Provide valid documentation of his or her birth date and nationality
● Demonstrate a track record of participation in youth societies or associations
● Demonstrate some track record of voluntary work

● This award will be awarded in four different categories; governments, private sector, non-profit organizations and individuals.
● All of the applicants except for the government sector must be accredited and recognized by the concerned member state, which they are applying from; the Kingdom of Bahrain will take full responsibility of all financial commitments towards this award.
