Funding brief: The International Children’s Peace Prize is awarded annually to a child, anywhere in the world, for his or her dedication to children’s rights. The International Children’s Peace Prize is a sign of recognition for the young winner. He or she receives the statuette ‘Nkosi’, which shows how a child sets the world in motion.

The organization or individual nominating a child (the nominating party) has the responsibility to inform the child and get his/her approval for the nomination. The nominating party agrees to provide the necessary information to KidsRights to complete the nomination. In case the child is shortlisted for the International Children’s Peace Prize, the nominating party also has the responsibility to guide and assist the child in dealing with (media) attention for his/her story. In case the child is shortlisted as the winner, the nominating party provides assistance for the local check by KidsRights and the development of the life story of the winner. Furthermore, the nominating party assists the child in his/her preparation for the award ceremony and is, besides the winner, the first point of contact for KidsRights. The nominating party may also be invited to attend the ceremony and assist the child during this period. The nominating party is not expected to bear any costs for the nomination or nominee, nor does it have any legal responsibilities/entitlements. KidsRights invests a project sum of €100,000 in projects in the winner’s home country that are closely connected to his or her area of work. If the nominating party meets the project criteria, the organization may be invited to participate in the call the proposals.

Award limit: The winner also receives a study grant and a world-wide platform to promote his or her ideals and causes to the benefit of children’s rights. A project fund of €100,000 is invested by KidsRights in projects that are closely connected to the winners’ area of work.

Eligibility:
An individual boy or girl (groups of children will not be considered);
Above 12 years and under 18 years of age; (the child should not be older than 17 years by the time of the nomination deadline)
From all over the world;
The child must have a clear history of standing up and fighting for the rights of him/herself and other children. It is important that the child has an active approach in accomplishing this goal, which has led to a concrete result;
Ability to travel abroad and feeling comfortable communicating with other people;
The child agrees to being nominated for the International Children’s Peace Prize
